Elon Musk Seeks AI Chip Designers for Tesla’s Ambitious Hardware Push

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company is hiring AI chip designers, signaling a major push in custom AI hardware development. The recruitment is aimed at experts in AI-applied chip design to help Tesla accelerate innovation in safety-critical areas, such as autonomous driving and humanoid robots for healthcare.

In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk invited skilled engineers to apply, emphasizing the company’s ongoing AI chip advancements. “Read that sentence again, as I’m not kidding,” Musk wrote, highlighting Tesla’s aggressive growth plans in this space.

Tesla has maintained an advanced AI chip and board engineering team for many years. This team has already designed and deployed millions of AI chips used in Tesla vehicles and data centers, enabling the company to maintain a lead in real-world AI applications. The current AI chip in Tesla cars is AI4, while AI5 is close to taping out, and work on AI6 has begun. Musk stated that Tesla aims to introduce a new AI chip design into volume production every 12 months, ultimately producing more chips than all other AI chip manufacturers combined.

These chips are central to Tesla’s long-term vision. They are designed not only to improve autonomous driving, reducing road accidents and fatalities, but also to power Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots, which could provide advanced medical assistance in the future.

Musk encouraged interested candidates to send an email to AI_Chips@Tesla.com
