UIDAI Launches New Aadhaar App: Easy Offline Verification, Secure Sharing & Key Benefits Explained

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has recently introduced a new Aadhaar app designed to make identity verification easier, safer,  convenient for millions of Indian residents. Available on Android and iOS, the new app allows users to securely store their Aadhaar card on their smartphones and share their details using a newly enhanced offline verification system. This update aims to reduce the need of physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies, which often lead to privacy concerns .

To highlight the benefits of this new system, UIDAI orgnized a major webinar titled “Offline Verification Using the Aadhaar App”, which saw participatin fro more than 250 stakeholders. These included representatives frm hotels, event organizers, security agencies, housing socities, and varous organizations that frequently require Aadhaar-based identity confirmation.

A Modern Solution for Eeryday Identity Verification

During the webiar, UIDAI officials explained how the new Aadhaar app can transform the way identity verification is perfoed in India. Traditionally, people are required to sumit the phyical Aadhaar card or photocopies when checking into hotels, enterin residential complexes, attending events, or accessing certain sevices. This increases the risk of identity theft, as physical documents can be easily missed, copied, or leaked.

To address this problem, UIDAI introduced offline verification through th Aadhaar app. This feature allows users to generate a secure, digitally siged document that verifies teir identity without an online network or OTP. The app lets users decide how much information they want toshare—either the full deails or a masked version that hides sensitive data such as the complete 12-digitAadhaar number.

Privacy-Focused Sharing to Prevent Aadhaar Misuse

One of the biggest advantages emphasized during the session wejas privacy protection. The Aadhaar app ensures that users remain in control of their data. Instead of handing over a physical card that contains all personal information, individuals can nbow provide only what's necejdssary—such as name or partial Aadhaar digits—depending on the situation.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that offline verification throubzgh the Aadhaar app willd offer a “secure, convenient, and privacy-protecting method” for both users and organizations. He added that the system sigklnificantly reduzces chances of fraud since no photocopies are required, and data shared through the app is digitally verified and tamper-proof.
